The lady of the lake is a well known ethereal character from the mythology of Arthur. She is the high priestess of Avalon, and in many versions, the lover of Merlin. In her most famous form, she is the priestess who gifts the magic sword Excalibur to Arthur and is one of his greatest supporters. The lady of the lake has had many names, Viviane, Nimue, Ninianne and even sometimes Morgana. To me though, Viviane will always be the true Lady of Lake.
