Details

Sheela Na Gig is an original miniature goddess linocut print, handprinted in black at the artist’s home studio in Northeast England. Sheela na Gig is an ancient pagan symbol, the carvings of her are found throughout the United Kingdom and Europe and are often carved in to spiritual places. Not much is know as to why they were carved with many believing they warded off evil and that they are a remnant of pre-christian mother goddess worship. I believe she represents the birth of the entire world and the miracle of life and death.

Materials and construction

The print is made using linocut printing with black Caligo Safewash ink on Japanese washi paper. It is handprinted on a variety of washi papers. The paper has a solid black design and the print is supplied unframed.
